Which Platform Is Your Kenmore Refrigerator? Reading the 253. Prefix and What It Changes
Many Kenmore refrigerators carry a 253. prefix, which points to Frigidaire or Electrolux construction. Here is how to read the label and why it matters for repairs.
A Kenmore refrigerator is not one design. The digits before the dot in the model number tell which company built the platform inside the cabinet. A number that begins with 253. is a Frigidaire or Electrolux-built refrigerator, and that changes which parts fit and how the cooling system is arranged.
Where the label sits
- Inside the fresh food section, on the upper side wall or the ceiling.
- Behind the crisper drawers on older units.
- On the back of the cabinet, if the front label is gone.
Take a clear photo of the whole sticker and keep it on your phone. It is useful for any future repair.
What the prefix changes
The platform decides which evaporator fan, defrost parts, water valve and control board go in your refrigerator. It also affects how a code or a pattern of blinking lights is read. Two refrigerators with the same Kenmore badge and the same door style may not share a single replacement part.
What it does not decide
Knowing the platform does not tell us what is wrong. A warm refrigerator, a frosted back wall and a clicking sound can each have several causes on any platform. The label narrows what we carry in mind to the visit, and the diagnosis still comes from testing the refrigerator.
Using the label before a visit
- Find the full model number and note any letters after the numbers.
- Write down the serial number from the same label.
- Describe what you notice in plain terms: temperature, sound, water, frost.
Send those with your request for refrigerator repair, and we will read the platform before we arrive. Our service area page lists the counties we reach.
