What F/05 means
On older Kenmore HE front-load washers whose model numbers start with 110, a Whirlpool-built platform with the F/xx display, F/05 reports a water temperature sensor failure. The sensor tells the control how hot the water in the drum is. When its reading is missing or out of range, the washer cannot manage warm cycles reliably and stops with F/05 on the display. The owner may notice cycles that stall at fill or will not run on warm settings.
Common causes of F/05
- Wiring to the water temperature sensor loose or damaged
- Water temperature sensor that has stopped reading properly
- Main control board input that is not reading the sensor
1. Run a cold-water cycle and see whether it completes. 2. Check that both hot and cold supply valves are open. 3. Avoid warm cycles until the washer has been checked. 4. Call us if F/05 returns on any cycle.
- Whether the sensor wiring or the sensor itself is the cause
- Whether the code appears on every cycle or only on warm ones
- Whether the control board reads the sensor correctly once it is connected
Other Washer codes
Will my Kenmore still wash on cold?
Sometimes it will, because cold cycles rely less on the temperature reading. If F/05 still appears or the cycle halts, stop using the washer until we have looked at it.
Is the sensor expensive to fix?
The sensor is a small part, but the wiring has to be checked first so we do not replace a good one. You get the written price before we begin.
Can hot water supply cause F/05?
The code is about the sensor reading, not the home's water heater. We still confirm your supply during the visit to rule it out. Run a cold cycle meanwhile if it completes.
Still seeing F/05?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
