What F1 means
The code F1 means different things by Kenmore platform. On ranges whose model numbers start with 665., a Whirlpool-built platform, it means the electronic oven control is defective. On a 790. range with the two-digit display, an Electrolux-built platform, it means an oven temperature sensor failure or a failed control. On 362. ranges built by GE, F0 or F1 points to the control board. The oven may stop heating, shut off, or show the code at power-up.
Common causes of F1
- Electronic oven control, on the 665 and 362 platforms
- Oven temperature sensor, on the 790 two-digit platform
- Sensor wiring and connector
- A reset clearing a one-time error
1. Check the model number prefix on the range tag, since the meaning depends on it. 2. Let the oven cool, then cancel the cycle. 3. On a 665 range, replace nothing yourself; leave the control for us. 4. On a 790 range, unplug it for 30 seconds before trying again. 5. If F1 shows again, call us with the model number.
- The same code can point to a sensor or to a board, depending on platform
- We identify the platform from the model number first
- We test before replacing and quote in writing

Why does F1 have two answers?
Kenmore ranges came from different builders. On 665 it points to the oven control, on 790 two-digit it can be the sensor or the control, and on 362 it is the control board.
Where is the model number?
It is on a tag, usually on the frame around the oven opening or inside the door area. Tell us the first three digits.
Which observations are worth sharing?
Tell us the first three digits of the model number and whether the oven still heats. That decides whether we check the control or the sensor first, and a written price comes before work.
Still seeing F1?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
