What F01 (110 / Whirlpool-built front-load) means

On Kenmore front-load washers whose model numbers start with 110, a Whirlpool-built platform sold as HE2, HE2 Plus, HE5 and HE5 Steam, F01 is an EEPROM error on the main control board. The EEPROM is the memory chip that holds settings and program data, and F01 says that data is corrupted. The washer stops and shows the code. The owner may see the display lock up.
