What Sd means

On Kenmore HE2 and HE2 Plus front-load washers, whose model numbers start with 110, Sd means the control detected excessive suds during the cycle. It first runs a suds kill routine, filling the tub with water and tumbling the clothes. If that routine does not clear the suds, the display shows Sd. The code is about detergent and foam, not a broken part. Too much detergent, or a detergent that is not high efficiency, is the usual reason.

Use only high efficiency detergent, and use the amount shown for your load size. High efficiency washers use little water, so extra detergent has nowhere to go and turns into foam.

What is the suds kill routine?

The washer fills the tub with water and tumbles the clothes to break up the foam. If the foam is still there afterward, the control stops the cycle and shows Sd.

Is Sd a sign of a problem with my HE2?

Not usually. It is a message about too much foam. If it returns with a small, correct dose of HE detergent, we check the sensing and the tub and quote in writing.
