What E54 means

On Kenmore 417 digital-display front-load washers from 2014 onward, such as 417.44130000, E54 means the drive motor is running over speed. The control sees the drum turning faster than commanded, based on the tachometer reading. Because that tachometer is built into the drive motor, a bad signal can look like an over-speed condition. The washer stops the spin and holds the code.
