What F/10 means
On older Kenmore HE front-load washers whose model numbers start with 110, a Whirlpool-built platform with the F/xx display, F/10 means the motor control board has overheated. This board drives the motor, and heat builds up when the drive system is working too hard or the board is deteriorating. The washer stops to protect itself and shows F/10. The owner may notice the drum stopping mid-cycle, sometimes after a heavy or unbalanced load.
Common causes of F/10
- Wiring connections on the motor control board that are loose or burned
- Drive system that is binding and overloading the board
- Motor control board that overheats under normal load
1. Switch the washer off and let it cool for a while. 2. Remove clothes if the load looks heavy and let the drum turn freely by hand. 3. Run a light load once. 4. If F/10 returns, stop using the washer and call us.
- Whether the board is overheating because of a drive problem or its own condition
- Whether the drum, bearings and motor turn freely
- Whether the board connections show heat damage
Other Washer codes
Why does my washer overheat the motor board?
The motor control board powers the drive, and a binding drum, a strained motor or a deteriorating board can all make it run hot. F/10 is the protection stopping the washer.
Is it safe to restart after cooling?
A light load after cooling is fine as a test. If F/10 appears again, keep the washer off, since repeated heating can damage the board further.
Will you replace the board straight away?
Only after checking the connections and the drive system, because a good board can run hot for a bad reason. We give you a written price first.
Still seeing F/10?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
