What rL / OU / F34 means
On Kenmore front-load washers whose model numbers start with 110, a Whirlpool-built platform, rL, OU and F34 report a load inside the washer during the Clean Washer cycle. The HE2 and HE2 Plus show rL, OU or F34. The HE5 and HE5 Steam show rL or F34. The Clean Washer cycle only runs with the tub empty, so the control stops when it senses clothes. The cycle then does not finish.
Common causes of rL / OU / F34
- Clothes left inside the drum when Clean Washer was started
- Spin bearing that does not let the drum spin freely
- Sensor reading that never agrees the drum is empty

Why does Clean Washer need an empty drum?
The cycle uses hot water and a cleaning step meant for the tub only. If the control senses clothes, it stops with rL, OU or F34 so the load is not run through a cycle that is not meant for it.

When nothing is inside and the code still shows, the drum may not be spinning freely, and a worn spin bearing is one thing we check. We confirm before recommending any repair.
Does OU appear on every model?
