What F/dL means
On older Kenmore HE front-load washers whose model numbers start with 110, a Whirlpool-built platform with the F/xx display, F/dL is a door lock error: the door cannot lock. The washer will not start or continue a cycle until it confirms the latch is secure. The owner sees F/dL, often with the door apparently shut. The cause may be a door that is not fully closed, a worn latch, or a loose connection in the lock assembly.
Common causes of F/dL
- Door not closing fully or catching on clothing
- Door lock assembly that is damaged or worn
- Loose wiring connection to the door lock
1. Check that no clothing or strap is caught in the door seal. 2. Open the door and close it firmly until it clicks. 3. Look at the latch hook on the door for visible damage. 4. If F/dL stays, call us.
- Whether the latch is the problem or the wiring to it
- Whether the lock engages when the door is closed correctly
- Whether the lock assembly needs replacing
Other Washer codes
The door is closed, so why F/dL?
The washer needs a signal that the lock has engaged. A trapped sleeve, a worn latch or a loose lock connection can all stop that signal.
Can I bypass the lock?
No. The lock is a safety feature that keeps the door shut while the drum spins, and we never advise bypassing it. A door that will not latch also means the washer will not start, so the code is working as intended.
Will you replace the whole door lock?
If the lock assembly is damaged, replacement is the normal repair. We check the latch and connection first and quote in writing. Sometimes a worn latch or loose connection is all it takes.
Still seeing F/dL?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
