What F27 means
Kenmore washers with model numbers starting 110. are a Whirlpool-built front-load platform sold as HE2, HE2 Plus, HE5 and HE5 Steam. On them F27 reports an overflow: the control believes there is too much water in the tub. The drain pump runs constantly trying to empty it and the door stays locked. You will see F27 on the display, a pump running without stopping and a drum that may still hold water.
Common causes of F27
- Water inlet valve that keeps letting water in
- Water level sensing reading too high
- Drain path that cannot keep up with the incoming water
1. If water is on the floor, shut off both faucets behind the washer. 2. Unplug the washer to see whether water keeps filling the tub. 3. Do not force the door while it is locked. 4. Leave the faucets closed and the washer unplugged until it has been inspected.
- Whether the inlet valve is passing water when it should be closed
- Whether the level sensing is wrong while the tub is actually fine
- Whether the drain path is partly blocked
Other Washer codes
Why is my drain pump running nonstop with F27 on the display?
It is an overflow code. The control thinks the tub holds too much water, so on this Whirlpool-built HE platform it runs the drain pump and keeps the door locked until the level is safe.
Why does my pump run nonstop with F27?
The control is trying to remove what it believes is excess water. If water keeps coming in, the pump cannot win, which is why we check the inlet valve first.
Should I turn the faucets off?
Yes, if water is rising or there is any leak. Closing the faucets and unplugging the washer limits damage while you wait for a visit.
Still seeing F27?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
