What F30 means
On Kenmore washers whose model numbers start with 110., a Whirlpool-built HE2, HE2 Plus, HE5 and HE5 Steam front-load platform, F30 means the dispenser system failed. The dispenser actuator moves cams and levers that direct detergent, softener and bleach, and the control did not see it complete its movement. You will see F30 on the display, and the washer may stop before the wash begins or run without releasing the products.
Common causes of F30
- Loose wiring between the dispenser actuator and the main electronic control board
- Cam or levers in the dispenser that bind or do not travel
- Dispenser actuator that does not respond when called
1. Pull out the dispenser drawer and check for dried detergent, a stuck cap or anything jamming it. 2. Wipe the drawer slot and push it fully home. 3. Start a short cycle and watch whether F30 returns. 4. Leave the top panel closed. The actuator wiring is not an owner job.
- Whether the actuator turns but the cam or levers are binding
- Whether the wiring to the main electronic control board is sound
- Whether the actuator or the board output is the weak part

Is F30 a detergent drawer problem or an electrical one?
It is a dispenser system failure. The control told the dispenser actuator to move and did not get the expected result, so this Whirlpool-built HE platform stops and shows F30.
Can sticky detergent cause F30?
It can add drag to the drawer and the levers behind it, though F30 itself is about the actuator system. A clean drawer rules out the simple cause before we test the actuator.
Can I run a load without the dispenser?
Possibly, but we do not recommend dosing by hand into a washer that has stopped on F30. It is better to have the dispenser tested so the wash can run normally.
Still seeing F30?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
