What F33 means
On Kenmore HE2 and HE2 Plus front-load washers whose model numbers start with 110., a Whirlpool-built platform, F33 means the drain pump relay on the main electronic control board has failed. That relay switches the drain pump on and off. When it does not do its job the pump cannot be commanded properly, and water stays in the tub. You will see F33 on the display and the cycle stops. This code is listed for the HE2 only.
Common causes of F33
- Loose wiring between the main electronic control board and the drain pump
- Drain pump relay on the main electronic control board
- Drain pump that does not respond to the command
1. Look at the drain hose behind the washer for a kink or a pinch. 2. Check for a clog at the standpipe or sink connection. 3. Start a short drain cycle and listen for the pump. 4. If the tub holds water, do not force the door and leave the washer unplugged for our visit.
- Whether the relay on the board has failed or the wiring to the pump has
- Whether the pump runs when it is powered directly in our test
- Whether a clog is hiding behind the relay problem
Other Washer codes
Does F33 only appear on the HE2 version?
It means the drain pump relay on the main control board failed. On this Whirlpool-built platform the board switches the pump, and when the relay does not work the water cannot be moved out.
Is F33 the same as F21?
No. F21 is a drain that did not finish in 8 minutes, often from a clog. F33 points at the relay that switches the pump. We check the drain path for both.
Does F33 mean I need a new board?
Only if the relay on the board is the proven cause. We check the pump wiring first and give you a written price before any part is ordered.
Still seeing F33?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
