What F6 E2 or F6 E3 means
On Kenmore VMAX top-load washers whose model numbers start with 110., a Whirlpool-built platform, F6 E2 and F6 E3 both report a communication error. The user interface control, the panel with your buttons and display, has stopped exchanging data with the main electronic control board. You will see the code on the display, and the washer may ignore buttons, start oddly or stop at the first step. The two codes are treated alike.
Common causes of F6 E2 or F6 E3
- Loose or damaged wiring between the user interface control and the main electronic control board
- User interface control that does not answer
- Main electronic control board that does not receive the panel signals
1. Press Power and Start again to see whether the controls respond. 2. Check that nothing, such as a detergent spill, is on the control panel. 3. Start a short cycle and note when the code appears. 4. Leave the console closed. The wiring behind it is not owner work.
- Whether the break is in the wiring or in one of the two boards
- Whether liquid or residue touched the control panel
- Whether the panel or the main board is the one that goes quiet
Other Washer codes
Does F6 E2 mean my control panel is dead?
It means the user interface control and the main control board are not communicating. On this Whirlpool-built VMAX top-load platform the buttons and display must exchange data with the main board, so it stops and shows the code.
Is F6 E3 different from F6 E2?
Both are communication errors between the same two boards, so the page and the repair path are shared. We test the harness and each board in turn.
Could a spilled drink cause it?
Moisture on the panel can cause odd signals, but the code is about the link between boards. A dry, clean panel is a sensible check, but a repeating code still needs testing.
