What nE / nF means
On Kenmore Wi-Fi front-load washers whose model numbers start with 796, an LG-built platform, nE and nF both point to the Wi-Fi module. The code nE is a Wi-Fi module connection failure, meaning the control cannot talk to the module. The code nF is a module failure, meaning the module itself is not working. Either one can leave the washer unresponsive until it is serviced. On a 402 front-load, nF means a water fill problem instead.
Common causes of nE / nF
- Wire harness connection between the Wi-Fi module and the electronic control board
- Wi-Fi module that has stopped working
- Control board that does not receive the module's signal
1. Unplug the washer and leave it for a minute. 2. Plug it back in and see whether the display clears. 3. Do not pull on any wiring or try to reach the module yourself. 4. If nE or nF comes back, note which one you see and call us with it.
- Whether the harness connection or the module itself is behind the code
- Whether the control board still talks to the module after a reset
- Whether the washer can be run without the module for now
Other Washer codes
Do I need Wi-Fi working to use my washer?
The buttons should work for normal cycles, but nE and nF can leave some washers unresponsive. If yours is stuck, unplug it for a moment and call us rather than forcing the controls.
What is the difference between nE and nF?
Both begin with a lowercase n: nE is a connection failure between the control and the module, while nF is a module failure. They lead to similar checks, but we read the exact letters on the display.
Does this mean my router is the problem?
These codes refer to the module inside the washer, not your home network. A router change does not clear them, so we check the harness and module and give a written price first.
Still seeing nE / nF?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
