What PF means
On Kenmore Calypso top-load washers, PF means power failed during a cycle. The washer lost power while it was running, and the control shows PF when power returns. You get a choice at that point. Press Start to continue the cycle from where power was lost, or press Stop/Cancel to clear the display and end the cycle. It is a message about the power, so there is no failed part behind a single PF.
Common causes of PF
- Power outage or brownout at the house
- Plug that is loose in the outlet
- Outlet or breaker that cuts power under load
1. Decide whether to finish the load. Press Start to continue from where power was lost. 2. Or press Stop/Cancel to clear the display and cancel the cycle. 3. Check the plug and the outlet. 4. Call us if PF returns with steady power at home.
- Whether the outlet and cord are good
- Whether the washer resets itself during the cycle
- Whether a particular cycle step triggers it

Should I press Start or Stop/Cancel?
If you want the load finished, press Start and the washer picks up from the point of power loss. If you would rather begin again, press Stop/Cancel, which clears the display and ends the cycle.
Will I lose the water in the tub?
The tub keeps its water until a cycle drains it. When you press Start the washer continues, and when you cancel it runs its normal drain after you restart.
PF came back when nothing happened to the power. Why?
Then the plug, the outlet or the control may be dropping power. We check those and give you a written price before we start any work.
Still unsure about PF?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
