What F3 E2 (110 / Whirlpool-built VMAX) means
Kenmore dryers starting 110 with VMAX or electronic controls, a Whirlpool-built platform, show F3 E2 for the moisture sensor. It appears when five consecutive loads dry without the sensor registering any moisture data. That can happen when loads are too small, or when the dryer is not level, so the clothes do not touch the sensor bars properly. The owner sees the code and sensor-based Automatic cycles may end early or run long.
Common causes of F3 E2 (110 / Whirlpool-built VMAX)
- Moisture sensor bars coated with residue
- Dryer not level
- Very small loads
- Sensor wiring to the control
1. Press Power to clear the display. 2. Check that the dryer is level. 3. Dry larger loads and use Automatic instead of Timed Dry. 4. Turn the breaker off for 1 minute, then back on. 5. If the code remains, call us.
- After the owner's checks it is still unclear whether the sensor, its wiring or the control is responsible.
- We clean and test the sensor path before we quote.
- You see a written price first, and a 30-day warranty applies.

Why did F3 E2 appear?
Five loads in a row dried without the moisture sensor reading any moisture. Very small loads or a dryer that is not level can do that on this 110-series, Whirlpool-built platform. Larger, damp loads usually register best.
What is the first thing to try?
Press Power to clear the display, check that the dryer is level, and run a larger load on Automatic. That gives the sensor a fair chance to register moisture.
Why try Automatic instead of Timed Dry?
Automatic cycles use the moisture sensor, so a larger load on Automatic lets the sensor register moisture again and can clear the condition. Dry a full-size load of towels if you are unsure what counts as larger.
