What tE / HE / LE / nE (722-prefix) means
The 722 prefix on a Kenmore Elite dishwasher identifies an LG-built platform that uses letter pairs for internal problems. tE is a thermistor failure or very high inlet water, above 194 F. HE is a heater circuit failure, LE is trouble with the motor, and nE is trouble with the Vario motor. BE, by contrast, is oversudsing. You will see the letters in the display and the cycle stops or does not heat properly.
Common causes of tE / HE / LE / nE (722-prefix)
- Inlet water temperature above 194 F for tE
- Thermistor reading and wiring
- Heater circuit for HE
- Wash motor for LE and the Vario motor for nE
1. Check the house water heater setting, since very hot inlet water can cause tE. 2. Open the door and look for a spray arm that is blocked or stuck. 3. Clean the filters and remove anything lodged in the tub. 4. Make sure the water supply valve is open. 5. Run a short cycle and write down the code.
- Each pair names a circuit, but a motor or heater code can also come from a connection and not a failed part.
- We measure the circuit and the water temperature before a part is quoted.
- Price is written first, and our 30-day workmanship warranty applies.

What does tE mean?
It points to the thermistor, or to inlet water that is very hot, above 194 F. We check the house water heater setting and the thermistor circuit when we trace it.
How is nE different from LE?
LE refers to the motor in general, while nE refers to the Vario motor. Both appear on 722-series, LG-built Kenmore Elite dishwashers, and each needs its own circuit test.
What about BE?
BE is oversudsing. It comes from the wrong detergent or an unlevel dishwasher, and it is a separate code from the four letter pairs on this page.
