What F/15 means
On older Kenmore HE front-load washers whose model numbers start with 110, a Whirlpool-built platform with the F/xx display, F/15 is a motor control board error. The board that drives the motor has reported a problem with itself or its connections. The washer cannot reliably turn the drum, so it stops and shows F/15. The owner sees the code and a cycle that will not finish, often with clothes and water still in the drum.
Common causes of F/15
- Wire harness connections on the motor control board
- Drive motor connections that are loose or corroded
- Motor control board that has failed internally
1. Switch the washer off and let it sit briefly. 2. Restart and try a drain and spin cycle to clear water. 3. Keep the door shut until the water has drained. 4. If F/15 returns, call us. 5. Do not open the cabinet to chase wiring.
- Whether the connections are sound before the board is blamed
- Whether the drive motor responds to the board
- Whether the board itself needs replacing

What does F/15 point to?
It points to the motor control board, the part that powers the drive motor. The board or its connections are reporting a problem, so the cycle stops.
Is the motor control board always the culprit?
Not always. Loose harness or motor connections can give the same code, so we check them first. Replacement is usually considered only when the wiring is sound.
What about the water left in the drum?
Try a drain and spin cycle. If the washer will not drain, call us and we can advise how to remove the water safely. Never open the door against standing water.
Still seeing F/15?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
