What Ld / LF means
Kenmore Calypso top-load washers use two codes that look alike but mean opposite things. Ld means a long drain, where the tub did not empty in time. LF means a long fill, where water did not reach the level in time. The Calypso name is how this line is documented, so we match your washer by the name and model before choosing checks. The same letters can mean different things on other Kenmore lines.
Common causes of Ld / LF
- Clog or kink in the house drain or the drain hose (Ld)
- Drain pump that is clogged or not clearing the tub (Ld)
- Water supply faucets that are not fully open (LF)
- Inlet valve that does not open when called for, or fill lines that are kinked or frozen (LF)
1. For Ld, check the house drain and the drain hose for clogs and kinks. 2. For LF, open both supply faucets fully and look at the fill lines for kinks or freezing. 3. Unplug the washer before looking at hoses or standing water. 4. If the code returns after one more cycle, call us.
- Whether the tub is slow to drain because of the house drain or the pump
- Whether the fill is slow because of the faucets, lines or the valve
- Whether the two codes ever appear together on your washer

How do I remember which is which?
Ld stands for long drain and LF for long fill. If water is stuck in the tub, think Ld. If water is not coming in, think LF.
Is this the same as an Oasis washer?
No. The Oasis line uses some of the same letters, so we always confirm the platform and model before deciding. The meaning of Ld and LF on your Calypso is what is described here.
Can a slow drain damage my washer?
Standing water for long periods can stress the drain pump and leave odor in the tub. We would rather trace the cause quickly and give a written price before any work.
Still seeing Ld / LF?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
