What LE / lE / tE / dc / E2 means
Kenmore front-load washers with model numbers that start with 402 read case-sensitive codes. Capital LE means the water level dropped below the reset level during the wash or rinse. Lowercase lE means the water level sensor failed. tE means the temperature is out of range, high or low, and dc means an unbalanced load. E2 means a stuck button on the control. Look closely at upper and lower case before you decide which one you have.
Common causes of LE / lE / tE / dc / E2
- Leak in the tub or a connected part, or a drain hose that siphons (LE)
- Wire harness between the water level sensor and the main control board (lE)
- Water level pressure sensor that reads incorrectly (lE)
- Load that is bunched to one side (dc)
- Button on the control that is stuck (E2)
1. Read the code again and note whether the first letter is capital or lowercase. 2. For LE, check the drain hose is installed with the correct loop and look for leaks around the tub. 3. For dc, stop the washer and redistribute the load. 4. For lE, tE or E2, unplug the washer and call us.
- Which of the five codes your control is really showing, since case matters
- Whether LE comes from a real leak or a drain that siphons water out
- Whether the sensor, the wiring or the control is behind lE
Other Washer codes
Does the case of the letters matter on a 402 washer?
Yes. LE and lE are different codes. Capital LE is low water during the cycle, and lowercase lE is a failed water level sensor. We ask you to read it exactly as displayed.
How can water siphon out of the washer?
If the drain hose is installed too low or pushed too far into the standpipe, water can be pulled out during the cycle. That makes the control think the level dropped and show LE.
Is E2 something I can clear?
A stuck button usually needs the control looked at. Do not keep pressing the buttons. Unplug the washer and tell us, and we give a written price before any repair.
Still seeing LE / lE / tE / dc / E2?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
