What E13 means

This applies to Kenmore front-load washers with model numbers starting 417, including 417.44130000 and the 2014+ digital-display versions. E13 reports water leaking in the tub, or an air leak in the hose that feeds the water level pressure sensor. The washer cannot measure its water level correctly, so it stops, and you may find water under the washer. The cycle ends without finishing the wash.

Common causes of E13

  • Cracked or leaking outer tub
  • Leaking hose or hose connection
  • Air leak in the water level pressure sensor hose
✓ One safe check you can try

1. Drain the washer if you can do so safely. 2. Unplug it and look under and around it for water. 3. Wipe up any pooled water and keep the area dry. 4. Do not run another cycle until a technician looks.

! Why to stop there
  • Whether the leak is in the tub, a hose or the pressure sensor air hose
  • If the outer tub itself is cracked the repair is larger and we will explain it plainly
  • After any flooding keep the washer unplugged until it is inspected
Opening a panel yourself does not automatically cancel a manufacturer warranty, but it can cause accidental damage, and some manufacturers set their own service conditions. Check your warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
E13E13 questions
What does the air hose have to do with it?

The pressure sensor reads water level through a small air hose. A leak in that hose gives wrong readings, and E13 is flagged even when the tub itself holds water.

Is the leak always water?

Not always. E13 covers both a water leak in the tub and an air leak in the sensor hose, and finding which one it is takes a proper look underneath and behind the cabinet.

Can I run it to see?

Please do not. Running water into a leaking tub can damage the floor and the washer, and after any flooding it should stay unplugged until it is inspected.
