What F2 E1 (110 / Whirlpool-built) means
On Kenmore top-load washers whose model numbers start with 110, a Whirlpool-built platform sold as VMW and VMAX, F2 E1 means a stuck key or button. On the VMW with a digital display, it appears when one or more keys on the user interface were held for 15 seconds or longer. On the VMAX it reports a stuck button. The owner sees F2 E1 and the washer may not start. A button that can be freed solves it; one that cannot means a new user interface control.
Common causes of F2 E1 (110 / Whirlpool-built)
- Button pressed or held down for too long
- Key stuck by spilled liquid or grime
- User interface control with a button that no longer releases

- Whether the user interface control must be replaced
- Whether spills have reached the board behind the panel
Other Washer codes
How long does a button have to be held?
On the digital-display VMW, 15 seconds or longer triggers the code. A stuck button is read as continuously pressed. The VMAX reports the same condition as a stuck button.
Can I clean it?
You can wipe the surface gently. Do not spray liquid into the panel, because moisture can damage the board behind it. A damp cloth is enough for fingerprints and film.
Does the whole control need replacing?
Only if a stuck button cannot be freed. We check first and give a written price, so you only pay for a part that was needed.
