What PF means
PF on a Kenmore electronic-control dryer with a 110 prefix, built by Whirlpool, means power failure: the drying cycle was interrupted by a loss of power. It is a message, not a failed part. Touching START clears it, and pressing and holding START resumes the cycle. On Kenmore Elite 796 dryers, a different LG-built platform, PF belongs to another row and points to the power cord or house supply.
Common causes of PF
- Power interruption during the cycle
- Breaker or fuse that tripped
- Loose plug or cord
- Repeated outages at the same time of day
1. Touch START to clear the PF message. 2. Press and hold START to resume the cycle. 3. Check that the plug is seated in the outlet. 4. Check the dryer breaker. 5. If PF returns without an outage, call us.
- A single PF after a storm needs no repair.
- Repeated PF messages suggest a supply or cord problem that we trace.
- We write the price down before any work and give a 30-day warranty.
Other Dryer codes
Is PF an error?
No. On a 110-series, Whirlpool-built dryer it means power was lost during the cycle. The dryer is telling you the cycle was interrupted, not that a part has failed.
How do I resume the cycle?
Touch START to clear the PF message, then press and hold START to resume the cycle where it left off, so the load does not need to be restarted.
Is PF the same on a 796 Elite?
No. On 796-series, LG-built dryers it is grouped with PS and nP as a power cord or house supply problem, which is a different row.
Still unsure about PF?
A technician diagnoses it on site and gives you the price in writing before any work starts.
